An important distinction between shelters and pet stores/breeders is that shelters are not providing their services for profit, and therefore they are more concerned about other factors, such as finding the perfect match between the pet and owner. Because they’ve spent time rescuing them and rehabilitating them, most shelters know their dogs and cats well.

Using various screening methods, they can help you find a dog or cat that fits into your family and lifestyle. For example, they know whether their animals are good with babies and toddlers, are active or more sedentary, independent or just need lots of love. They will also tell you which animals need daily jogs, a lot of stimulation or even training. You can make a big mistake in buying a pet that needs daily jogs or mental stimulation if you live a busy lifestyle.

Once you adopt a pet, you’re automatically enrolled in a community of animal lovers and pet enthusiasts. Not only can you adopt your best friend at a shelter, but you’ll also be doing valuable community service just by the act of adopting! With more and more people adopting from shelters, the status once associated with purebred is shifting to mixed breeds from shelters. People generally feel adopting pets is a status symbol. Status are now shifting from having the most expensive animal, to having an animal whose life you have saved!

So why hesitate? Just look at all these faces! They are all ready to fill an empty space in your home. Waiting to be the loyal friend, companion and protector of your family!

Pokkel
